When I was growing up, I was kind of average in school as far as the grades went. Where I excelled, was in my "interpersonal capabilities." Many times, in the comments on my report cards appeared the words: "Elaine talks too much." I guess it's always been a natural skill! My parents were college professors by day
teaching Effective Speaking, Language and Thought, and Astronomy. In their off hours they were amateur magicians taking children's magic shows to schools and appearing live on the Romper Room show every Christmas morning as I was growing up! This must account for my love of speaking and enjoying the ability to try new and different things. Growing up was As an adult, I try to pass along that love of life to my own family. My husband Larry has been a teacher for 33 years encouraging his students to understand and appreciate math (something I can't imagine!). Our son Bryan has picked up this knowledge, along with an enjoyment of people. He is a freshman at Kansas University majoring in Engineering and Business. I attend The National Speakers Association annual conventions and Bryan has gone with me for 9 years as a participant in their Youth Leadership Program. For the past 2 years he has been a staff counselor in the same program. This is something we do together each year.
